Activities and Accomplishments - 2008

  • November 10, 2008 - The City Council voted to approve a contract to shelter Culver City animals at the spcaLA shelter in Hawthorne.
  • June 16, 2008 - On June 16, 2008 a majority of the City Council approved the hiring of a full-time Animal Services Officer.
A majority of the City Council approved the hiring of a full-time local animal services officer as a 24 month pilot program. Those who championed this measure and who consistently supported its implementation prior to, and during, the 2008 City Council elections were Council Members Gary Silbiger, Christopher Armenta and Micheal O'Leary.
  • January 19 - June 7, 2008 - FCCA members participated in demonstrations at the Carson and Downey shelters.
  • January 19, 2008 - Councilmember Gary Silbiger and FCCA members joined animal welfare supporters at a demonstration at the Carson shelter to protest the deplorable conditions. suffering and unnecessary death inflicted on animals in LA County shelters.
  • January 15, 2008 - FCCA members attended Carson City Council meeting that directed an investigation into the acts of cruelty at the LA County Carson shelter.
